The Truth Hidden in Plain Site

April 30, 2025

We can get as deep as we want into the details of performance.

The harsh reality is that most of the time you just need to do more.

It was hard for me to realize too, but it is the truth.

Doing more doesn’t always mean putting in more "effort" or working harder. Sometimes, it means focusing on more detail, adopting better strategies, more devotion, acting with greater intention, and deepening your understanding.

Here’s the thing: everyone thinks they’re dialed. Almost everyone you ask will say they are dialed no matter how much they do . Everyone believes they are because their minds trick them into feeling satisfied with their efforts. Let me assure you, most of the time, it's not enough to get what you want.

Some of you might need more reps, but others need to bring more energy, pay more attention to detail, and invest more in knowledge. Realizing you aren’t doing enough can be uncomfortable to hear, but it’s also exciting because it means you can push more chips into the pot, increasing your chance of a bigger reward. There are countless techniques, methods, and practices that can help, but fundamentally, you simply need to do more.

But here's the kicker: it must be genuine. Doing more just to convince yourself that you’re working hard is pointless. Training just for the sake of it, or to give yourself a pat on the back for doing "more," is a waste. Stupid games = stupid prizes.

The problem is that many people are obsessed with quick and immediate outcomes. They struggle to accept the raw truth that significant investments in something don’t give instant results. This mindset of instant gratification is limiting. Typically, the average person thrives on the short term rewards—they need to see gains and growth as motivation to continue. They need to feel "good" to do what's necessary. But ask yourself, is being average really what you want?

Many of us are afraid to commit fully without the promise of short-term rewards, with the possibility of not achieving what we desire in the long run. Achieving incredible things takes an incredible amount of time. There are no hacks or cheat codes that can bypass this truth. The real cheat code is simply understanding this truth.

Extraordinary people stand apart in every aspect. They think differently, feel differently, perceive the world differently, and believe different things about themselves. They maintain a unique relationship with themselves and their minds. Do you not see the trend? Look around you. You must almost be the opposite of ordinary people.

This applies across all domains, sports, and crafts. Consider Tiger Woods, Bruce Lee, Conor McGregor, and Elon Musk. They are all completely different - While these are extreme examples of phenomenal success, the principle applies to top performers of any craft.

If you aim for excellence, you must not only do the borderline opposite of what everyone else in society does, but you must also be different from everyone in your sport, your league, and your team. Society breeds average, limited, and moderate outcomes. You'll need to distinguish yourself from those around you, even in your sport. While this doesn’t guarantee success, it is essential—whether it's in how you work, what you do, your beliefs, your mindset, your approach, or all of it combined.

If you want different outputs than everyone else you need different inputs. We all know this, but how many of us act on it?

The constant search for the edge up, a constant search to get ahead of the curve, a constant search to remove limitations and barriers. Most people avoid their limitations. You must be the one who looks for them.

What are you willing to give up? Are you willing to give your comfort? Are you willing to give convenience? How much time are you willing to put into yourself? How much time, energy, detail, focus, and attention are you willing to give? Are you willing to truly be devoted?

There are no right or wrong answers here. But when it comes to reaching potential, these are the questions you must ask yourself. These are the questions that determine how much of your potential you can unlock and who you can become.

EXTRAORDINARY

If excellence is what you seek,

Break from the norm, be unique.

Society’s mold, quietly decline,

On your distinct path, let your stars align.

No simple formula, no easy chart,

Just a relentless pursuit of heart.
